Changi Airport Terminal 2 Extension

This Terminal extension project comprised of the construction of two 500m long 2-storey “finger” buildings and renovation of the existing building in-between.

The construction was carried out in the midst of ongoing airport operations under a security tight environment with strict safety requirements. Meticulous coordination and planning were required to overcome these constraints.

Sembawang E&C shortened the construction duration from 29 months to 23.5 months through enhanced buidability of the project through massive use of precast elements for the columns, beams and cantilevered slabs along the perimeter of the fingers. Sembawang E&C also adopted numerous innovative construction techniques such as the introduction of galvanized fish tail inserts for suspension of above ceiling installation to reduce labor cost and construction duration.

Construction of Terminal 2 Extension comprised two new finger buildings and conversion of a portion of the existing Terminal II between the two finger buildings into shops and waiting area.
